During the parent/teacher conference when Phoebe was in the fourth grade, the teacher looked at me knowingly and said, "If Phoebe went over to that window, opened it up and jumped out, the entire class would follow her." The classroom was on the top story. Now Phoebe has an entire platoon of soldiers who follow her when she jumps out of  airplanes. .Phoebe graduated from the United States
Military Academy at West Point in 2000. Never in my life as an antiestablishment pacifist could I have guessed that my kid would become a soldier.  Let's hope she helps to bring peace to the world.
